Optometrist
Dr. Sophy Kurian
Dr. Kurian, an Edmonton native raised in Fort McMurray, discovered her passion for optometry at a young age when she received her first pair of glasses at 8 years old. The improvement in her vision, especially at school, motivated her to pursue a career in helping others see clearly. While studying at the University of Alberta, she volunteered as a healthcare researcher for two months in Tanzania, East Africa, where she witnessed the profound impact that eye care providers have on people’s lives. This experience inspired her to complete her Doctor of Optometry degree, earning a spot on the Dean’s List at the University of Waterloo in 2003.
When she’s not caring for her patients, Dr. Kurian enjoys spending quality time with her husband and three young boys. She also volunteers her time for children’s programs in her community, demonstrating her commitment to serving others in every aspect of her life.
